PC Tips - Computer Protection

We at MJ Technologies would like to provide some tips on how to take care of your computer.

As of late we've have seen many more virus and malware infections on computers. We always recommend having a one-two combination of an anti-virus and anti-malware program installed on your computer. There are many different programs to choose from and it depends on personal preference but on thing that we do recommend is to purchase the program. Many free applications often have some limitations when it comes to functionality and they vary widely.

The next thing we highly recommend is backing up your computer. Still many users do not back up their data and then it becomes too late. There are many options available to computer users. We recommend backing your data to an external hard drive. Many external hard drives come pre-installed with software to aid you with backing up your data. You may be asking what about cloud storage?  We think that cloud storage should be used in conjunction with the external hard to offer a fail safe option.

During the summer time, many of us become laxed in some of our responsibilities. With summer drawing to a close, many of us are running around trying to get the kids ready for the beginning of school, the return of a regular work week, etc.

If you feel that it's just too much to handle, just remember we can give you the help you need.  From recommending software, backup solutions and much more, we're "Geared To Meet Your Needs"!

We are offering a "Back to School Special"  until 9/5/2012.

"Give me your email & password for your Facebook." - Your Employer

Sometime ago we had posted on our Facebook page about companies checking your Facebook page. Well it was reported yesterday that current & future employers are now asking for your email address & password for your Facebook account. The big question was that is it legal. Well, according to several leading lawyers, it turns out that it is. As it stands right now, there are only 3 states that have drafted bills to make it illegal.
We want to know what is your take on this. Will you give your credentials up?
Let us know by posting your comments on our blog.

Public Service Announcement - Safeguard your technology

We are all aware of viruses, spyware & malware. What about actual physical theft?  I recently rode the NYC subway (which I have not done in about 2 years) and was surprised to see all of the technology being used out in the open. iPads, Kindles, Nooks, and more. A veritable store for a thief.

Would you count $500.00 in a subway car?  Why not? You are already doing so by using your iPad that you waited on line for all night at the Apple store.  Wait until you've reached your destination to read that article, book and rest assured that the Angry birds will still be angry.

As a kid in NYC & even today my mother would say "protect your valuables". Do not leave yourself to become a victim of theft or even worse.
Stay safe.

You need to see it now? Check out this extension for Chrome Browsers!

Advertisements are a great way for Web sites that provide free services to help recoup the cost of operation. When ads pop up on YouTube, they're not too much of an issue, and are generally viewed as inevitable. However, if you're trying to find a specific video, waiting through a 20- to 30-second ad each time can become very frustrating. Fortunately for Chrome users there's an extension called Skip ads on YouTube - No illegal block, which allows you to skip the ads and get straight to the video.

Read about it here...    Get the extension here!

Facebook pictures, gone but not forgotten (deleted)?

Facebook is still working on deleting photos from its servers in a timely manner nearly three years after Ars Technica first brought attention to the topic. The company admitted on Friday that its older systems for storing uploaded content "did not always delete images from content delivery networks in a reasonable period of time even though they were immediately removed from the site," but said it's currently finishing up a newer system that makes the process much quicker. In the meantime, photos that users thought they "deleted" from the social network months or even years ago remain accessible via direct link.

Cnet Friday Poll: Would you boycott Apple?

One night on the Daily Show, it was reported that if Apple made their products in the U.S. it would cost 23% more to buy their products.

It's the tale of two Apples. One is a shining fruit that recently reported $13 billion in profits.
The other has potential worms inside in the form of a New York Times report on injuries and poor working conditions at Chinese manufacturing plants that make the company's products.

You may be surprised at the results so far...

Microsoft says don't wait for 8 to upgrade

As part of that push, Microsoft has been constantly reminding people that support for XP runs out in April 2014, at which time security patches and other updates will no longer be available. Though that gives individuals plenty of time to upgrade, enterprises face a longer path to migration, putting more pressure on them to switch to Windows 7 before too long.
Read the article...Windows XP still rules but don't wait for 8 to upgrade.
